Great 2015 set to be better for Spain than 2014

With visitor numbers rising and its economy improving, 2014 has been a fantastic year for Spain and as 2015 looks set to be even better, overseas property demand is likely to rise says Taylor Wimpey España.

What does Spain hold in store for 2015?

Tourism in Spain contributed 11.7% to the economy in 2013, according to the latest data from Market Research Reports, with total tourism output reaching €191.5 billion. And as 2014 draws to a close it looks certain that those figures will be pushed even higher thanks to a record-breaking year.

Taylor Wimpey España comments “It’s been a fantastic year for Spain, we’ve seen resorts across the country receive record numbers of visitors, with the lure of Spanish sunshine tempting many to come here for their holidays. One of the great things about Spain is its mass appeal – whether for singletons, couples, families or retirees, Spain has something to offer everyone.”

Buying a second home is child’s play – no kidding!

For families, buying a second home is child’s play – as long as you get the kids on your side!

That’s the view of overseas property professionals who say children play a vital role in the buying process, with pools and locations near beaches among their top requirements.

Taylor WImpey España comments:  “There’s no doubt that children play a huge role in their parents’ decision to purchase a second home. Our buyers are looking for large swimming pools, on-site parking and easy beach access, all of which are important for their children to enjoy time at the property.”

Building a better future in Spain

The cranes are on the move once again in Spain, as the construction sector finally picks up its tools following a seven year pause. October 2014 saw the sector register a 13.9% increase in activity compared with a year earlier, according to Eurostat, while financial advisors Arcano have pegged real estate and construction as two of the driving forces behind the Spanish economy in 2015.

Taylor Wimpey Epaña comments: “The past few years certainly haven’t been easy for Spain’s construction and real estate sectors. Many developments were simply left mid-construction when the hard times hit and it has taken until now for a lot of companies to have both the confidence and the financing to begin building once more.”

Ask for the kids’ permission first

What is perhaps less well known is the influence that children have on the purchase of second homes. Owning a home overseas is a wonderful way to enjoy family holidays and avoids the usual hassles associated with family getaways. The TripAdvisor survey found that lugging extra gear and not enough quiet time for parents were the top annoyances, both of which can be avoided through second home ownership.

Taylor Wimpey Spain comments: “There’s no doubt that children play a huge role in their parents’ decision to purchase a second home. Our buyers are looking for large swimming pools, on-site parking and easy beach access, all of which are important for their children to enjoy time at the property.”

“Buying a villa from an unscrupulous developer who has built on protected land could see your life savings vanish fast,” says Spanish builder Taylor Wimpey España. Such stories have hit the headlines. Brits have seen their dream holiday homes bulldozed by the local council because they didn’t have the right building permissions.

Record year for Spanish tourism

“Rising visitor numbers are great news for Spain’s construction sector,” Taylor Wimpey Spain comments. “Certainly here at Taylor Wimpey España we have noticed strong demand for luxury holiday properties from buyers hailing from a wide range of countries. Spain has such an enchanting effect on so many people that they want to come back again and again, so buying a second home here is the perfect solution.”

The Costa Blanca remains one of the most popular areas with tourists, with the Mayor of Calpe, César Sánchez, highlighting the area’s cuisine and beaches as two of the leading reasons for its appeal.

Taylor Wimpey has seen an “influx of buyers” for their development in the area, with only two three-bedroom houses left.

“Our other Calpe site, Montesol, has proven equally popular, with just three townhouses left, priced from €249,000,” he adds. “The area’s blend of excellent food, good wine, stunning scenery and family friendly beach is a truly winning combination.”

Viva España: What can expats really expect from their new life under the Spanish sun?

Of course, the only way to really tell what a country is like is to live there for an extended period of time. Taylor Wimpey España find that many who purchase their holiday homes do so with a view to using them in the future as retirement properties. This enables them to spend holidays there with family and friends, but also to stay for longer periods before committing to a full move. It’s an ideal solution for those considering becoming expats but uncertain as to what they can really expect.

The beautiful townhouses at Brisas de Alenda Golf in Alicante are the perfect properties for those considering a new life in Spain, as well as for second homes. The last remaining townhouses, which are available for €145,000, enjoy a superb location in this exclusive and tranquil area and their spacious terraces, communal pool and pretty communal gardens have been designed with outdoor living in mind. As well as the idyllic golf course, the area boasts a clubhouse, bilingual Spanish/English school and nearby supermarket, all just 15 minutes from Alicante airport.
