Spain has retained its position as having more Blue Flags than any other country in the world. The country now has a total of 621 Blue Flags for its beaches – 6 more than in 2021. Awarded based on cleanliness, services, water quality and a range of other factors, Blue Flags recognise the best beaches around the world, and Spain once again has the best of the best in 2022. Counting marinas and tourist boats as well as beaches, the country has a total of 729 Blue Flags – an increase of 23 since 2021.
“Travellers come from around the world to spend time on Spain’s beaches. The quality and variety on offer are simply superb. With the additional Blue Flags it has earned this year, Spain is now home to 15% of the world’s best beaches and we are delighted to be delivering holiday homes close to a selection of those beaches.”

The Valencian Community, which encompasses Alicante, Torrevieja, Xàbia (Jávea), Denia and several other popular locations, boasts more Blue Flags than any other area, with a total of 139. One of those is for Arenal – a horseshoe-shaped stretch of soft sand that extends for half a mile, with gently lapping waves that are perfect for splashing in. Just a 10-minute stroll away is Essential, from leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España, where two-bedroom and three-bedroom apartments are arranged around a central communal pool. All apartments have private terraces.
While the Valencian Community takes the top spot for the highest number, it is Andalusia that has achieved the greatest increase in Blue Flags during the past year. The region now boasts a total of 122 Blue Flags, covering some 169.6 km of beachfront.
La Cala in Mijas proudly flies one of those flags, in recognition of its clean waters and outstanding facilities, where visitors can laze on sunbeds before taking a stroll along the boardwalk to choose from the many well-regarded beachfront restaurants. Nearby, the rolling greenery of La Cala Golf Resort is home to a range of second home options, including the light-filled apartments at Harmony.
“Owning a second home by a Blue Flag beach means having access to outstanding scenery and top amenities, as well as safe, clean waters. It’s the perfect setting for a family holiday where you can have confidence in the quality of your surroundings.”
