There is a great deal of focus on energy performance in the UK at the moment, both from an environmental perspective and through property owners seeking to reduce energy output in their homes. But what about properties overseas – how do they compare? Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España has shared some insights with Abode2 into the importance of energy performance in Spain.
Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España, commented: “The increasing cost of energy is one that’s impacting all countries, so there’s plenty of attention being paid to this in Spain right now. It’s particularly relevant in the construction of new homes, as they provide the chance to build far more energy efficient properties, when compared with traditional homes.”
Energy ratings are applied EU-wide so the rating system in Spain mirrors that in the UK (for the moment, at least). Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) range from A to G, with modern homes delivering superior results to older properties.
Taylor Wimpey España, for example, is currently offering a range of key-ready homes with an EPC rating of B. The homes feature large windows to make the most of the natural light (as well as maximising the picturesque views) and deliver maximum thermal and acoustic comfort. Solar panels are used to reduce the properties’ need for energy from external sources.
One such B-rated development is Emerald Greens, which is home to spacious apartments and penthouses at the Costa del Sol’s renowned San Roque Club. Priced from €290,000 plus VAT, the two- and three-bedroom homes deliver stunning views over the fairways and down to the sea, with large, open terraces.
Over in Sotogrande, the pretty, frontline marina apartments at Pier 2 are also rated B for their energy performance. The private gated community includes garden areas and a pool for residents’ exclusive use, while individual homes feature generous terraces with lovely views of the marina. Prices start from €400,000 plus VAT.
He added, “A good energy performance rating is a win on all fronts. It shows that the property’s environmental impact will be minimal in terms of its energy consumption, and it reassures owners in terms of their bills. It’s something that we focus on very carefully for each of the developments that we design and build.”
With COP26 focusing the world’s attention on climate matters, issues such as energy performance are set to command ever greater attention. Thankfully, with a focus on this during the design and construction phase, holiday homes such as those from Taylor Wimpey España can tick all the right boxes when it comes to their energy ratings.
