Reduced running costs and environmental benefits push sustainable Spanish homes to the top of the class for contemporary buyers

Taylor Wimpey España reveals surging interest in A-rated homes

An increasing number of homebuyers are asking about the energy rating of new homes in Spain.

“Sustainability is now a prominent part of our pre-purchase conversations with many buyers,” reveals Marc Pritchard, who has been selling homes for leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España for over 30 years. “Buyers want to know about insulation, energy efficiency, and heating and cooling costs. They have a dual focus, looking on the one hand at reducing their CO2 emissions and on the other at futureproofing their homes against rising energy costs.”

Taylor Wimpey España’s A-rated homes combine excellent thermal insulation and high-performance windows and doors with low-consumption appliances and efficient heating and cooling systems. They also incorporate solar panels to increase self-sufficiency and aerothermal systems to reduce energy requirements while supporting the home to maintain a comfortable temperature year-round. The properties include acoustic insulation as well, reducing outside noise for an enhanced living experience.

A home with an energy rating of A can consume up to 90% less energy than a home with low energy efficiency (such as homes rated E, F or G). This translates to a substantial reduction in CO₂ emissions. Newly built A-rated homes can also reduce annual energy expenditure by between 20% and 40%, depending on the size of the home, occupants’ usage habits and the property’s location.

A-rated homes available through Taylor Wimpey España in the Costa del Sol range from golf course properties with panoramic sea views (at Altura 160, priced from €499,000 plus VAT) to traditionally styled homes in the heart of town (such as Fuente Lirios in the centre of Benahavis, where homes cost from €395,000 plus VAT). Taylor Wimpey España blends 65+ years of housebuilding experience in Spain with the latest sustainable construction methods to deliver these diverse, highly energy efficient homes.
Buyers are focusing on reducing both emissions and energy costs

Elsewhere in Spain, Taylor Wimpey España’s A-rated homes at Allure, located at Alenda Golf in the Costa Blanca, have proven a hit with eco-conscious family buyers. Launched in July 2023, just four of the 72 properties now remain available. The average buyer age of between 30 and 44 years old highlights the properties’ family focus, supported by onsite communal pools for adults and children and a charming playground. The final few two-bedroom/two-bathroom homes are priced from €270,000 plus VAT, with handover of the properties anticipated in September 2027.

Over on Mallorca, British buyers have snapped up 30% of the A-rated townhouses at Es Voltor, set against the dreamy backdrop of the Tramuntana Mountains. With large, southwest-facing terraces and private gardens, as well as a communal pool, the homes provide an idyllic escape just 8km from the coast. Just two homes remain available at the development, priced from €865,000 plus VAT. Ready to move into now, the homes have attracted buyers from Germany and Spain, as well as the UK, with an average buyer age of between 45 and 59.

“Buyers of all ages are keen to prioritise sustainability and energy efficiency. Homes that are kinder to the planet and to owners’ monthly energy budgets present a double win. We’re proud to be offering such an extensive selection of A-rated homes across the Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol, Costa Calida and Mallorca.”
