“Spanish homes are selling fast. It is time to buy.” That’s the message from leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España, which saw property reservations by British buyers increase by 180% in its May YTD figures. Data from Rightmove backs the trend, with buyer enquiries for properties in Spain up by 36% in April 2022 compared to the same month in 2021. So strong is demand that three of Taylor Wimpey España’s developments in the Balearic Islands and two in the Costa Blanca are all selling their final few units. At the same time, visitor numbers to Spain are increasing hugely. 24 million tourists chose Spain for their holidays between January and April 2022, with three million of them from Britain (more than from any other country). That’s a 433% increase compared to the same period last year. “With rapidly rising visitor numbers, we’re expecting further keen interest in our properties in both mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands over the course of the summer months. British buyers have shown they are determined to enjoy the opportunity of spending time in Spain and forging a deep connection with the country by owning a home here.” Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España |
In Ibiza, it is Sunset Ibiza that has just two units still available. The spectacular project looks out over the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean, with incredible views over the bay and Conillera Island. Apartment prices start from €700,000 plus VAT, with on-site facilities including a pool surrounded by communal gardens. On Mallorca, both Sa Galera in Palma and Canyamel Pins in Capdepera only have a few units left for sale. Sa Galera’s three-bedroom townhouses have proven popular with buyers looking for the combination of sea views and easy access to the city centre. At Canyamel Pins, meanwhile, where apartment prices start from €520,000 plus VAT, it’s the combination of beach, pool and golf all within a few minutes’ stroll that has seen buyers snap up the spacious homes. “Whether it’s urban townhouses, golf apartments or frontline beach homes, buyers are clearly telling us that it’s time to buy. The pandemic has given many families the chance to reevaluate their priorities and making happy memories together in the sunshine is now top of many people’s lists.” Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España |
The surging interest in holiday homes comes as the Spanish property market generally is enjoying a buoyant performance. During Q1 2022, the volume of sales was up by 14.1% compared to the previous year, according to the Colegio Registradores. Tinsa data shows that prices have risen to, with an increase of 8.4% in the year to May 2022. For buyers on the Costa Blanca, the last phase of Kiruna Hills in Elche is providing three-bedroom houses at Alenda Golf, with on-site communal pool, from €220,000 plus VAT. Over in Punta Prima, just two seafront apartments are still available at Posidonia. Priced from €399,000 plus VAT, the south-facing properties with well-proportioned terraces provide magnificent sea views, as well as three on-site swimming pools and a children’s playground. |
“Buying one of the last units on a development means that buyers can see the finished home before they buy and get a feel for the place. They can even meet the neighbours and chat about what it’s like to own a home there. There may also be scope to negotiate the purchase of furniture on developments where the last property to go is the show home – it’s always worth checking what opportunities buying last might open up.” Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director of Taylor Wimpey España For more information, please contact Taylor Wimpey España on 08000 121 020 or visit https://www.taylorwimpeyspain.com/.
