Health, happiness and high-speed internet drive increase in demand for Spanish golf homes

Leading home builder Taylor Wimpey España has reported an increase in demand for Spanish golf properties, as buyers seek a healthier lifestyle. Terraces, views over open green areas, communal gardens and swimming pools are all on buyers’ wish-lists, as they look for homes that deliver space in all its forms.

“The pandemic fueled a race for space in the UK housing market and we’ve seen that spill over into what buyers are looking for from their holiday homes too. Space – both indoors and outdoors – is a top priority.”

Taylor Wimpey España’s golf properties have proven particularly popular due to their ability to facilitate a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. With 300 sunny days per year and multiple world-class courses, Spain is a golf haven. Those who own golf properties there are able to reap the benefits of all that exercise and sunshine to both their physical and mental health.

Also important now is the opportunity for owners to work from home, according to the Taylor Wimpey España team. This means that flexible living spaces and high-speed internet connections are non-negotiables. Many more Spaniards now work from home than did so pre-pandemic. Spain’s Ministry of Economic Issues and Digital Transformation reports that the number of employed people working from their own home for at least half of the time now stands at 8%, compared to 4.8% in December 2019. And that’s without factoring in those who are self-employed/working freelance/living as digital nomads.

Golf’s attraction as a means of socialising with family and friends outdoors is another part of its appeal. And when it comes to golfing in Spain, few areas can compete with the Costa del Sol. That’s the home of the aptly named Emerald Greens, where key-ready apartments are available priced from €298,000. Located at the popular San Roque Club, the two- and three-bedroom apartments provide plenty of space for working as well as playing, with plenty of room left over for relaxation.

The homes have been designed around the ‘total living’ concept, with priority given to a spacious, open plan living room that leads out onto a large terrace. Predominantly southern-facing and with views across the golf course to the sea, as well as being fully integrated into the surrounding corn oak meadows, the homes provide space and greenery in abundance.

“The homes at Emerald Greens are ideal for those who want to enjoy long, blended work/golf breaks. The peaceful setting, communal pool, stunning views and on-site golf facilities mean that owners are supported to stay healthy both physically and mentally. There’s also plenty of room to work, whether indoors or out on the terrace. These homes are very much on point when it comes to meeting the needs of buyers during the pandemic.”
