24th Malaga International Jazz Festival

malaga-jazz-festival-2010The 24th annual Malaga International Jazz Festival returns to southern Spain with show-stopping performances from all over the world, bringing you a wide programme  of concerts and many other activities from the 9th to the 18th November. From the 10th to the 12th, the JazzFestival also takes to the streets of Malaga with a marching band parade.

The activities and performances will be split between the Teatro Cervantes and Teatro Echegary with street performances by the marching band Andajazz. Concert entrance tickets run from 9 euro to 24 euro depending on seating and can be purchased either at the theaters box offices or online at www.generaltickets.com.

9 November: Doris Cales Quartet – All that Jazz

All that Jazz is a mature work, full of nuances and bold original compositions and arrangements of songs written by legends such as The Beatles and Elvis Presley sung by one of the most important voices of the Jazz scene today. Tickets: 15€

10 November: Ana Cisneros Trio & Fredrik Carlquist

With an innovative acoustic and minimalist concept, Ana Cisneros pays tribute to some of the most remarkable trios in Jazz history including Nat King Cole and Ahmad Jamal, Nancy Wilson, Etta Jones and Dinah Washington. Tickets: 15€

11 November: La Insostenible Big Band

The Unsustainable Big Band is made up of students and teachers from the Conservatory College of Malaga who convey artistic and musical expression in their own unique and talented way with performances throughout the province of Malaga and other Andalusian towns. Tickets: 10€

12 November: Seamus Blake Quintet

New York based tenor saxophonist/composer Seamus Blake is recognized as one of the finest exponents of contemporary jazz known for his sophistication, bold improvisations and “sheer swagger”. His latest release, Live in Italy has been described as one of the elite albums of the year and exhilarating as a shot of expresso. Tickets: 15€

13 November: Sacri Delfino Trio

Considered one of the revelations of the Spanish Jazz scene, Sacri Delfino Trio presents his first album, Jairania, winner of the Acid Jazz Hispano Awards. This collection of work is Jazz at its most sensitive, which clearly highlights his technical expression. Tickets: 15€

14 November: La Voz del Bosque

Three friends share games in an oak forest. Upon learning of the construction of a road that will sacrifice the oak forest, they climb trees to try to avoid it, but time passes and only Lucia has the courage to remain at the top of the “rivet”. The voice of the forest is inspired by the story of Julia “Butterfly” Hill, a young American environmentalist who lived for two years in a tree. Tickets: 6€

18 November: La Sole de Malaga

A phenomenal voice full of virtuous and powerful expression. La Sole infuses song with the elegance, freedom, freshness and authenticity that are inherent to her being and she does so with a rare wisdom and courage. Tickets: 10€
