Playa Los Locos in Torrevieja is a beautiful, family-friendly beach located on the Costa Blanca. Known for its fine golden sand and clear, calm waters, this beach is perfect for swimming and sunbathing. The beach stretches for approximately 760 meters, offering ample space for visitors to relax and enjoy the Mediterranean sun. Its name, which translates to “The Crazy Beach,” adds a touch of local charm and intrigue. Playa Los Locos is a popular destination for both tourists and locals, thanks to its vibrant atmosphere and stunning coastal views.
Los Locos Beach is one of the most popular destinations in Torrevieja, situated between Salaret Point and Palangre Cove. While the majority of its surface is sandy, it also features about 200 meters of coastal rock, with stairs providing access to and from the sea in this area.
Along the Av. Dr. Mariano Ruiz Cánovas, you’ll find various dining establishments, and the beach itself boasts a beach bar, sunbed and umbrella area, children’s playground, and recreational water activities.
While many are familiar with Los Locos Beach (formerly known as Salaret Beach), few know the origin of its peculiar name.
In the early 20th century, a family from Madrid of Murcian origin established the psychiatric institution ‘Sanatorio del Carmen’ facing Salaret Beach.
Its owner, Mariano Ruiz Cánovas, spent long summers in Torrevieja with his family, running the psychiatric center known as “the asylum.”
It’s even said that on occasion, some patients were allowed to go to the beach for a refreshing swim, making the establishment quite popular.
