Taylor Wimpey España home completions jump 77%

Firm completed 381 homes in Spain in 2022 – up 77% from 2021

Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España completed 381 homes during 2022, across locations including the Costa del Sol, Costa Blanca, Mallorca and Ibiza. The figure represents a jump of 77% from the 215 homes completed during 2021. The average selling price in 2022 stood at €383k.  As well as accelerating the pace of completions, Taylor Wimpey España also grew its total order book during the year, to 448 homes by 31st December 2022 – an increase of 38% compared to the previous year.

“We are delighted to have completed so many properties during 2022, to support buyers of 41 different nationalities to pursue their dreams of owning a second home in Spain. It is also gratifying to be able to report that 92.3% of our buyers would be confident to recommend us to their best friend, in terms of satisfaction with the Taylor Wimpey España service.”

As ever, British buyers favoured the Costa del Sol more than any other region during 2022. While Alicante and the wider Costa Blanca region provide greater value for money, it is the Costa del Sol’s unique blend of sunshine, beaches, golf, cuisine and extensive expat community that tends to win British buyers’ hearts. The fact that the cost of living in Spain is, on average, 17.3% lower than in the UK (according to Numbeo’s 2023 figures) is also not lost on many buyers right now.

Overall, 2022 proved to be a record year for reservations for Taylor Wimpey España. Key themes in terms of buyer requirements included plentiful indoor and outdoor space and an abundance of natural light, along with sustainability and the potential for energy cost savings (something that is pushing many buyers to seek out new builds, rather than older properties).

Looking ahead, the Spanish real estate market is tipped to attract both families buying holiday homes for personal use and those buying as an investment in 2023. Real estate can serve as a solid hedge against inflation and Fitch projects that Spanish home price growth will be between 2% and 4% during 2023, meaning Spain would significantly out-perform many other leading European property markets, including the UK, Germany, France, Denmark and the Netherlands.

For buyers in the Costa del Sol looking for an extra special second home (whether for personal use or as an investment), Taylor Wimpey España has a select number of penthouses available for sale. At the stunning Almazara Hills in the Sierra de las Nieves – an area of exceptional natural beauty – penthouse apartments look out over the hundred-year-old forests to panoramic views of Marbella Bay and the great Istán reservoir. Priced from €570,000 plus VAT, the homes are beautifully designed for enjoying the relaxed pace of the local lifestyle, though with international schools, the Manolo Santana Tennis Academy, golf courses, shopping and leisure centres and the beaches of the Golden Mile all just 10-15 minutes away by car.

Penthouses are also available at Marbella Lake in Nueva Andalucia, where the glorious lakeside setting delivers a wonderful sense of serenity, just 5 km down the road from the bright lights and golden sands of Puerto Banús. Spacious and airy, the homes are awash with natural light, with terraces that are perfect for al fresco dining in the sunshine. Prices start from €800,000 plus VAT.

“2022 was a strong year for the Spanish property market. With buyers increasingly prioritising health and wellbeing, sustainability, cost of living and a more blended work/life balance, Spain has plenty to offer in 2023 as well.”
