New tourist routes to Barcelona and Malaga to fly from Aberdeen

The newly branded Aberdeen International Airport will offer north-east customers new services to Barcelona and Malaga this summer.

Barrhead Travel has announced plans to operate a record number of flights, direct from Aberdeen to the popular Spanish holiday destinations, commencing in May.

A total of 20,000 seats will be available, between May and October 2013, which is double the capacity of the firm’s chartered flights in 2012.

Sharon Munro, the chief executive of Barrhead Travel, said: “We strive to give our customers greater choice and value and chartering flights direct from Aberdeen to some of our most popular European holiday destinations makes perfect sense to us.

“In partnership with British Airways, our charter schedule will give customers the option to enjoy luxury travel, on-board our specially selected BA aircraft which comes with extra leg room, comfortable baggage allowance and convenient travel times direct from the north-east.

“This summer will see our most ambitious flight programme to date, including the new routes from Aberdeen to Malaga and Barcelona, exclusive to Barrhead Travel customers.

The airport’s managing director, Derek Provan, has welcomed the new association.

He stated: “Barrhead Travel has always proved a popular choice for Scottish holidaymakers and we have worked closely with the company to ensure its flight programme from Aberdeen International Airport is a success.

“This is good news for local holidaymakers. With new international routes, available direct [from Aberdeen], we are confident our partnership is on course to be a success.”
