New museum for the graphic works of Dali in Palma

A new exhibition opened in Palma de Mallorca this month showcasing four decades of graphic works by the Catalan artist Salvador Dali. Dali’s pictures are presented by German Wolfgang Hornke who has found a home for the permanent exhibition in the newly named Museo Can Morey de Santmarti.

The museum is at the end of the Parc de la Mar on Carrer de la Portella. Like so many of the galleries in Palma this is an unusual space. In this case one that used to be a home. Wandering from room to room you feel that you are in a friends house, albeit a rather grand one, looking at the pictures that hang on their living room wall. The whole experience from entering the elaborate, open courtyard from the narrow Carrer de la Portella to climbing the stairs and finding the rooms, that must have previously been studies, bedrooms and living areas, makes for an unusual visit that both surprises and delights. Much like Dali’s work itself.
