EIGHT per cent more British tourists are expected to come to the Costa del Sol over the next six months, according to forecasts announced by the Provincial Council and Costa del Sol Tourism President Elias Bendodo.
The figure, together with the expected end of year surge in UK visitors to the Spanish coast, points to the ongoing importance of British tourists to the Costa del Sol. “It’s an important increase, especially from a market that is still concerned with quality of service and is becoming more demanding. The main attractions are still the sun and the beaches, but they’re looking for other things too now” Bendodo said. The Costa del Sol was well represented at the annual World Travel Market, in London from Monday November 2–Thursday November 5, with 300 meetings planned for the week. The province is looking for greater consistency across seasons and has been promoting its advantages as a winter destination.
Bendodo emphasised that the province is connected by air to 14 cities in the UK with extra flights planned between Malaga and the UK this winter. At this time Gatwick is reported to be the airport with the greatest number of flights coming to the Costa.
