British home buyers #1 in Costa del Sol as they prioritise September sunshine

1 in 5 buyers with Taylor Wimpey España in the Costa del Sol are Britons
British buyers account for one in five (21%) of all property reservations in the Costa del Sol – more than any of the other 29 nationalities buying homes there. The Costa del Sol figures, reported by leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España, echo the picture nationally in Spain, with the General Council of Notaries (Consejo General del Notariado) reporting that Britons once more lead the table of foreign buyers, accounting for 7% of all international buyers during the first six months of 2026. UK buyers bought 3,511 properties across the country during that time.

With September marking the start of slightly cooler weather in Spain, the focus of many British buyers is on golf properties in the Costa del Sol, with one of the sport’s peak periods getting into full swing. British golfers are seeking both second homes and retirement properties in the sunshine, with buyers predominantly married couples aged between 55 and 60, according to Taylor Wimpey España.

Homes at Solana Village, located at the Costa del Sol’s prestigious La Cala Golf Resort, are a case in point. Priced from €400,000 plus VAT, the apartments include various ground floor, penthouse and duplex options, with a choice of two- or three-bedroom layouts, serving a wide variety of buyer needs.

“We’re seeing buyers looking for space they can use flexibly,” explains Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey España. “That might mean a room that can serve as a home office right now but double as a guest bedroom when friends and family visit. Peace and quiet are also important, which is another reason buyers are drawn to La Cala Golf and the surrounding area. There’s a lovely balance between a serene lifestyle and an excellent selection of sports and fitness amenities, making the resort ideal for buyers focusing on their health and wellbeing.”
7% of all foreign buyers in Spain are British – more than any other nationality
Buyers of Taylor Wimpey España homes at La Cala Golf are provided with the resort’s Privilege Card as part of their purchase. It provides them with exclusive rates across the entire resort, including for golf, the resort’s spa, its numerous restaurants and other sports facilities. The latter includes tennis and padel courts, as well as a range of fitness and wellness classes.

In addition to apartments at Solana Village, townhouses at The Meadows are a popular choice with British golfers seeking versatile space. The three-bedroom properties cost from €650,000 plus VAT, occupying a frontline golf position within La Cala and offering panoramic views of the resort and Mijas valley. Rated A for their energy efficiency, 26 of the spacious properties are available to golfers seeking a serene, idyllic setting that’s perfect for enjoying the Spanish sun.

Taylor Wimpey España’s figures reveal that the average price paid by buyers in the Costa del Sol during 2025/26 was €560,000, reflecting the popularity of both apartments and townhouses with golfers seeking contemporary homes in the area.

“There’s no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to golf homes. Buyers have a wide range of needs, so providing a mix of property types is key to ensuring everyone can find their ideal Costa del Sol home. The common factor is the appeal of the setting – the serenity, sunshine and wealth of high-end sporting facilities. Those are elements that all buyers delight in, regardless of the type of property they purchase.”
