As peak season approaches for many of the popular holiday destinations, Spain is already enjoying a noticeable increase in visitors this year.

Information from The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade puts the number of visitors to Spain from January to March at 9million, a 2.9% increase on the same three month period the year before.

One area contributing to this rise in tourism, which is expected to continue, is the Costa Blanca. The area, which forms part of the Costa belt along Spain’s southern coastline, has been basking in glorious sunshine and temperatures are set to soar further during peak season.

Meeting a Growing Demand

As a result of growing demand for holidays to Spain, Jet2.com has launched five new routes from Glasgow to popular Spanish destinations. Set to launch in summer 2012, the routes will take passengers to Barcelona, Ibiza, Lanzrote, Malaga and Murcia.

The flights are on sale now, as well as its schedules to Alicante, Faro, Majorca and Tenerife due to their popularity this year. “There’s no doubt this is an exciting time for us at Glasgow Airport.

In just two months since we started flying from our newest base we have launched five new routes and also increased capacity to some of our most popular destinations – this demonstrates how committed we are to growing the range of great value destinations we offer to customers across Glasgow and the west of Scotland,” said Ian Doubtfire, managing director at Jet2.com. “We are really pleased with bookings so far with 150,000 seats already sold, covering both Jet2.com and Jet2holidays passengers.”
