With more than 500 years of history, the Malaga Fair is the grand summer fair on the Costa del Sol. Just like the host city, this fair is open to everyone who wants to join in the fun with the local people.
This is a MUST SEE if you are visiting Malaga province in mid August. The fair lasts a full, fun-packed week and is divided into two parts: the Feria de Dia (daytime fair events) and the Feria de Noche (night fair).
The Feria de Día is a wonderful, magical experience, with brightly coloured fluttering flags and decorated streets, ladies and children in bright flamenco dresses, horses brushed, decorated and shining, music, dancing and singing. The religious processions are a sight to see and there are live events and music on stages for all ages dotted around town.
There are plenty of places to get refreshed and try some local cuisine too.
Just head for the town centre by day, or the fairground outside town by night, and be amazed!
The Feria de Noche is for insomniacs and night-owls (that is, most Spaniards!) which starts around 9pm and goes on well into the small hours of the morning. It takes place outside the centre, in the Recinto Ferial, a huge fairground area easily accessible from the motorway.
They say there are more lights on at the Feria de Noche than in the average medium sized town at night and it is beautiful! There are streets set up with bars, restaurants, social clubs, late night disco tents, special places wtih children’s events, lots and lots of places to dance and lots of live performances. Stroll from one ‘peña’ (club tent) to the next to see everything that is going on, from acrobatic trickes to rock bands, and fireworks every night at midnight. There is also a traditional fairground with some terrifying rides!
