Copa del Rey 30

This year marks the 30th edition of this regatta which will take place between the 30th of July & the 6th of August and be hosted by the Real Club Nautico de Palma.

This event is one of the most prestigious in Spain & The Mediterranean since its inception in 1982, when the National Association of cruises organized its first edition, also open to boats on handicap. Up until now there have been many changes & developments: increased technology, faster boats, greater involvement from institutions and companies. However, one of the few things that almost from its inception have remained constant is the support and active participation of the Spanish Royal Family.

It has gone from a regatta with tradition to an event of great international recognition. It initially hosted around fifty boats which became over 100 participants in the 1990’s. As popularity of the event grew with a greater number of participating boats in the split divisions of Cruising & Racing, the regatta was prestigiously on the international map.

A phase of transition took place in the first 8 years of the new millennium with updated fleet classification & measurement systems as new edition one designs appeared on the scene. What springs to mind when talking to a sailor large one design? The TP52 – a striking fast design.

What will this year bring? Nobody knows, but it sure will offer a sailing razzle-dazzle in Palma
