Alicante-Elche Airport increases flights to Russia

THE Costa Blanca will see a doubling of its flights with Russia this year and as such plans to welcome 300,000 tourists.

For some years, towns up and down the Costa Blanca have been popular destinations for Russian tourists, and as from next week Alicante-Elche Airport will see two daily flights to Moscow and two weekly flights to St. Petersburg.

Across Spain, and according to official figures, there are currently 70,000 Russian’s living in the country; 25,000 choosing the Alicante Province as home.

Next to Barcelona, Torrevieja is next on the list with 4,300 registered Russian nationals, followed by Alicante (1,500), Orihuela (990), Benidorm (640), Altea (580), Guardamar (475), Calpe (429) and Rojales (389).

The Costa Blanca has surpassed the Costa del Sol in the preferences for Russian tourists because they prefer the climate compared to that experienced in Marbella.  In addition, prices of property and the costs of day-to-day living better suit the Russian pocket.

According to data released by the Valencian Tourism Agency, Russian tourism grew by 14.1 per cent in 2017, with 176,000 people visiting the Community.  85 per cent of those chose the Alicante Province.
