Golf drives Mallorca’s tourism on course

Mallorca continues to top the list of the favourite holiday hotspots for Brits visiting Spain with the Balearic Islands Tourism Board reporting a huge jump in visitor numbers during the first part of 2017.

British arrivals to Mallorca were up by 17.6% year-on-year for the period January – May 2017 compared to the year before reports the Tourism Board. And with the summer season now underway, it seems the outlook for the remainder of 2017 is equally positive.

One area which is driving visitor levels even higher is sports tourism, especially golf, with many UK golfers choosing Mallorca to their overseas rounds rather than traditional Spanish mainland destinations or the Algarve.

Home to three world-class golf courses – Golf Son Gual S.L, Arabella Golf Son Vida and Canyamel Golf – Mallorca is already widely considered one of the best golfing hotspots with Pula Golf Course in the west and Son Antem in the south drawing many to practice their swing this season.

Indeed, the growth in sports tourism and golf in particular is so marked that housebuilders on the island including Taylor Wimpey Spain are seeing demand for holiday homes right on or very close to the top courses.

“For fans of the sport, golf properties provide the ideal base for any holiday or retirement plans with high quality facilities right on the doorstep. Buyers should consider properties near a golf course that is also considered a resort offering an array of additional facilities to keep the non-golf players in the party equally as happy. Spain’s plentiful sunshine and dry, warm days allow for visits throughout every season for exciting weekends away playing golf and a very popular rental opportunity.”

Many potential buyers aim for locations such as Puerto de Andratx or Santa Ponsa for the perfect Mallorca home. Santa Ponsa enjoys a superb location, surrounded by some of the top golf clubs on the island including Golf Santa Ponsa I, II and III, Golf de Andratx, Golf de Poniente and Bendinat Golf.

Taylor Wimpey Spain’s’s latest development, Marina Golf, is perfectly located next to the Santa Ponsa III golf club and the resort has a residents’ club to appeal to all demographics – retirees, singles, golfers, non-golfers, permanent residents or vacation visitors. It is also near the coast, in an area dotted with beautiful coves and beaches and some of the island’s most exclusive marinas such as Puerto Adriano.

With prices starting from €590,000 + VAT, all properties at Marina Golf benefit from 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, with air conditioning, under floor heating in the bathrooms, double-glazing, security door, TV aerial and satellite dish. In the communal area there is a swimming pool for the exclusive use of owners, surrounded by a solarium area with views over the golf course.
