There is a great deal of focus on energy performance in the UK at the moment, both from an environmental perspective and through property owners seeking to reduce their eye-watering energy bills. But what about properties overseas \u2013 how do they compare? Leading Spanish home builder\u00a0Taylor Wimpey Espa\u00f1a<\/a>\u00a0has shared some insights into the importance of energy performance in Spain.

\u201cThe increasing cost of energy is one that\u2019s impacting all countries, so there\u2019s plenty of attention being paid to this in Spain right now. It\u2019s particularly relevant in the construction of new homes, as they provide the chance to build far more energy efficient properties, when compared with traditional homes.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>

Energy ratings are applied EU-wide so the rating system in Spain mirrors that in the UK (for the moment, at least). Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) range from A to G, with modern homes delivering superior results to older properties.

Taylor Wimpey Espa\u00f1a, for example, is currently offering a range of key-ready homes with an EPC rating of B. The homes feature large windows to make the most of the natural light (as well as maximising the picturesque views) and deliver maximum thermal and acoustic comfort. Solar panels are used to reduce the properties\u2019 need for energy from external sources.

One such B-rated development is\u00a0Emerald Greens<\/a>, which is home to spacious apartments and penthouses at the Costa del Sol\u2019s renowned San Roque Club. Priced from \u20ac290,000 plus VAT, the two- and three-bedroom homes deliver stunning views over the fairways and down to the sea, with large, open terraces.

Over in Sotogrande, the pretty, frontline marina apartments at\u00a0Pier 2<\/a>\u00a0are also rated B for their energy performance. The private gated community includes garden areas and a pool for residents\u2019 exclusive use, while individual homes feature generous terraces with lovely views of the marina. Prices start from \u20ac400,000 plus VAT.

\u201cA good energy performance rating is a win on all fronts. It shows that the property\u2019s environmental impact will be minimal in terms of its energy consumption, and it reassures owners in terms of their bills. It\u2019s something that we focus on very carefully for each of the developments that we design and build.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>
