When Boris Johnson led the Conservatives to a resounding win in the December 2019 election, the pound rocketed, hitting a three-and-a-half-year high against the euro. Over the course of the full year, it rose by more than 6% against the euro – the first year since 2015 that it has done so.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2020 has the potential to strengthen the pound further, sensitive as it is to Brexit-based certainty. With legislation now in place for the UK to leave the EU on 31 January, we can reasonably expect a further surge. This presents an interesting opportunity for those looking to purchase holiday homes in euros.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, over in Spain, the cost of borrowing has never been cheaper. Interest rates are running at historic lows, making it the ideal time to take out a mortgage. There’s speculation that the rates will rise before too long, meaning that buyers need to move fairly swiftly to take advantage of them.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
