The new mayor and two of his councillors paid a visit to La Glea Beach in Campoamor last Tuesday where they carried out the symbolic act of raising the recently awarded Blue Flag.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In all there have been a total of 10 Blue Flags and 5 \u2018Q\u2019 Quality Tourism Flags awarded to Orihuela Costa Beaches this year which once again can boast the highest concentration of Blue Flag beaches on the Mediterranean coast, as well as the highest number of \u201cQ\u201d for quality flags in Valencia.<\/p>\n

All of the beaches have seen a great deal of work carried out on them during the winter months and many are now equipped with brand new wooden walkways, foot showers, toilets and much improved chirunguito bars.<\/p>\n

There is also the additional availability of free internet and secure beach lockers on some of the playas which can you be rented by the public as a small extra charge.<\/p>\n

Although the mayor, Emilio Bascu\u00f1ana, has been quite busy since his inauguration the ceremony was the first official act carried out on the Orihuela Costa by the Councillors for Tourism and the Environment, Sofia Alvarez and Miguel Angel Fernandez respectively.<\/p>\n

Of course Ms Alvarez has also been appointed the Councillor for the coast and for International residents so we will expect to see much more of her during the coming weeks as she meets and greets many local groups and personalities.<\/p>\n

The Orihuela Costa beaches receiving the blue flag awards are Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, Cala Bosque (La Zenia), La Caleta, Cala Capitan, Aquamarina, Barranco Rubio and La Glea addition to the Marinas at Cabo Roig and Yacht Club de Campoamor.<\/p>\n

In the Community of Valencia the nearest challengers to Orihuela are Valencia and Cullera with 6 blue flags each and Alcala de Xivert, Benicassim, Elche and Torrevieja with five each.\u00a0 In terms of concentration
\nThe beaches in receipt of the ‘Q’ for Quality award from the Institute for Quality Tourism in Spain are Punta Prima, Cala Estaca, Cala Capitan, Mil Palmeras and La Glea.<\/p>\n

These awards recognise clean water monitoring to ensure the safety of bathers, sanitation, recreational areas and recreational facilities, as well as the environmental protection measures.<\/p>\n

With a total 0f 678, including 101 for Marinas, Spain has more Blue Flag awards than any other country worldwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
