At times it has been described as the exaggerated, on occasion compared to the deformed, and at others to the satirical or even the incongruous.\u00a0 Museo Picasso M\u00e1laga takes a close look at the subject in <em>The Grotesque Factor,<\/em> an exhibition that examines the meaning and evolution of this category of aesthetics at various points in Western art history.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/ev_35cabezas_c.jpg_5796651.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4846\" title=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/ev_35cabezas_c.jpg_5796651-e1349952253331.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"530\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/ev_35cabezas_c.jpg_5796651-e1349952253331.jpg 530w, https:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/ev_35cabezas_c.jpg_5796651-e1349952253331-300x127.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 530px) 100vw, 530px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Grotesque Factor, shows over 270 paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings, books, documents and fragments of film have been gathered together for this exhibition. Works by some 70 artists, who include Francis Bacon, Louise Bourgeois, Otto Dix, James Ensor, Max Ernst, Jos\u00e9 Guti\u00e9rrez Solana, Victor Hugo, Paul Klee, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, Ren\u00e9 Magritte, Man Ray, Franz Xaver Messerschmidt, Juan Mu\u00f1oz, Meret Oppenheim, Pablo Picasso, Richard Prince, Juan S\u00e1nchez Cot\u00e1n, Antonio Saura, Thomas Sch\u00fctte, Cindy Sherman, Leonardo da Vinci, Bill Viola and Franz West. The works are technically and formally diverse and are seen on display together here for the first time. They share with one another an element of the grotesque, which has been defined in this exhibition as an artist\u2019s view of the world, a mindset that has been expressed in very different ways over the years.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The exhibition is curated by Jos\u00e9 Lebrero Stals, artistic director of MPM. The academic advisor is Luis Puelles, professor of Aesthetics and Art Theory at the University of Malaga.
