The annual festival of the Rei en Jaume is celebrated in Santa Ponsa, Calvi\u00e0 from 27th August to 16th September. The festival celebrates the successful landing and conquering of the Moors in Mallorca by\u00a0King Jaime I\u00a0in 1229. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, the festive programme consists of more than 60 cultural, leisure and traditional activities such as concerts, exhibitions, nit de foc, medieval market, thematic fiestas, parades, traditional dancing, cross swimming, etc.<\/p>\n

Highlights include a parade of giants, DJ sessions at the weekends, a ‘night of fire’ followed by a foam party, and a medieval market where you can sample all sorts of curious food and drink offerings. The star of the show comes on Saturday 11th September, when a re-enactment of the landings and the battles take place on Playa Grande beach & Calo d’en Pellicer beach, with the final battle being held on Santa Ponca beach. Expect firecrackers and much rejoicing! Fireworks mark the closing of the fiesta in the evening of Sunday 12th September.<\/p>\n

Organized by the Department of Culture, Rei En Jaume Awards are divided into 9 categories:\u00a0Plastic Arts, Plastic Arts Artists of Calvia, Comic, Investigation, Narrative in Spanish, Narrative in Catalan, Spanish Poetry, Catalan Poetry and\u00a0 English Poetry.<\/p>\n

As part of the Fiestas del Rei En Jaume during September, are the most prominent events of the contest: the Awards Ceremony Rei En Jaume, the Inauguration of the Exhibition of Fine Arts and the Inauguration of the Comic Exhibition.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During the gala, held in the gardens of H10 Punta Negra, \u00a0the awards for Architecture in Calvia, Calvia convened by the Foundation, in collaboration with the City were presented. \u00a0Jose Antonio Coderch Sentmenat posthumously won the award for best architectural work of the last thirty years for the Hotel Melia de Mar. The award for best new building or rennovation completed between 2000 and 2009 went to the\u00a0architectural team of Xavier Claramunt, Pau Rodr\u00edguez Mart\u00edn Ezquerro for the Hotel Hospes Maricel.<\/div>\n
The selected artworks at the awards, sponsored by Taylor Woodrow, will be exhibited from September 15 in the exhibition City Hall.<\/div>\n
