It was confirmed on the 31st<\/sup>\u00a0of December 2011 under the Royal Decree – Law 20\/2011 that the reduced VAT rate of 4% introduced in 2011 will remain applicable for all new build properties only in Spain throughout 2012.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an ongoing effort to reduce the volume of stock property in Spain and stimulate the construction sector, the Spanish Government has set IVA (the equivalent of VAT) at 50% until the end of 2012, making purchasers of both first (mostly Spanish nationals) and second new homes liable for only 4% of the purchase price, a saving of \u20ac8,000 on a \u20ac200,000 home.<\/p>\n

But those who purchase a new build property on the stunning Balearic island of Mallorca or Costa Blanca through leading house builder Taylor Wimpey Spain before 29th<\/sup>\u00a0February 2012 can enjoy\u00a0an extra 4% off the purchase price, in effect making the property VAT free.
