{"id":2819,"date":"2011-09-16T10:31:35","date_gmt":"2011-09-16T08:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/?p=2033"},"modified":"2012-06-05T09:14:10","modified_gmt":"2012-06-05T09:14:10","slug":"8th-tui-marathon-palma-de-majorca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/8th-tui-marathon-palma-de-majorca\/","title":{"rendered":"8th TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Travellers to Palma will be able to witness or take part in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tui-marathon.com\/_eng\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">International TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca<\/a> this October.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/tui_marathon_mallorca_2010_runners.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2034\" title=\"8th TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca\" src=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/tui_marathon_mallorca_2010_runners.jpg\" alt=\"8th TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca\" width=\"530\" height=\"353\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The unique sporting event will be held in the Spanish city for the eighth time in 2011, with a wide variety of different races to be held on October 16th.<\/p>\n<p>Open to professional athletes and amateur runners of all ages, the programme of events will include marathon, half-marathon, 10 km run and Nordic walking contests, as well as a kids&#8217; run that takes place on October 15th.<\/p>\n<p>Regular water stations and first aid zones are positioned along the length of the race course, with those who complete the event receiving medals and T-shirts.<\/p>\n<p>The race was named the best sporting event in Spain by Eventoplus earlier this year and is expected to be well-attended once again in 2011, with tennis star Carlos Moya set to be among the runners.<\/p>\n<p>Entry for the full marathon costs \u20ac68 (\u00a359.30), with reduced prices available for the shorter events.<\/p>\n<p>The marathon, half-marathon and 10 km run begin at 09:00 local time, with the Nordic walking competition starting 15 minutes later.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/tuimarathon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2035\" title=\"8th TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca 2\" src=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/tuimarathon-e1316161705292.jpg\" alt=\"8th TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca 2\" width=\"530\" height=\"297\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Anything adults can do, kids can do just as well. On 15 October the day before the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tui-marathon.com\/_eng\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">8th TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca<\/a>, the fourth Unicef Kids Run will be held in the old town of Palma. About 2,000 young runners will then show their sporting prowess. They will be supported by tennis star Carlos Moya, who will start the race between the young running talents. The Kids Run is part of the benefit campaign \u201cChildren of the North run for children of the South\u201c: for every child that takes part TUI will donate five euros to the drinking water project \u201cWater for Niger \u2013 Every drop counts\u201c. This educational campaign aims at explaining the meaning of water for the survival of children. \u201cIt is most important to me that children get actively involved in sport at a young age. With the Unicef Kids Run they are not only doing sport, but are also doing it for a good cause,\u201c emphasized Carlos Moya. Carlos will run in the main race of the TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca, accompanied by 50 members of his sport studio Profitness.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on their age the youngsters run between 600 and 1,200 metres. Their sporting commitment is rewarded not only by a free entry to the race but also by being awarded a certificate, a medal and a T-shirt. This year the upcoming sporting youngsters will receive for the first time their own starting bag and, if they wish, an engraved medal as a souvenir of their charitable activity. Michael Lambertz, head of TUI AG Group Marketing, said: \u201cWe are really happy that the Unicef Kids Run has developed into a real highlight for Spanish and international families.
