There are three chambers inside the caves, Cueva Negra (Black Cave), Cueva Blanca (White Cave) and Cueva Luis Salvator (Luis Salvator Cave). The latter is named after the Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria who invited \u00c9douard-Alfred Martel to explore the caves in 1896; the caves are also home to Lago Martel (Lake Martel), one of the largest subterranean lakes in the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/show1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1006\" title=\"Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach)\" src=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/show1.jpg\" alt=\"Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach)\" width=\"530\" height=\"334\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Located on Mallorca&#8217;s east coast the caves are without doubt one of the island&#8217;s most outstanding tourist attractions, extending for almost 2,400 metres and including internal heights of 25 metres above the cave floor.<\/p>\n<p>Hidden within the caves is Lake Martel, considered to be one of the largest subterranean lakes in the world, (177 metres long and 230 metres wide) on which there are daily performances of classical music featuring pieces by Caballero, Chopin, Offenbach, &#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/show2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1007\" title=\"Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach) 2\" src=\"http:\/\/taylorwimpeyspain.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/show2.jpg\" alt=\"Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach) 2\" width=\"530\" height=\"334\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After the concert one can take a short boat trip on the lake. The unequalled beauty of the caves is further enhanced by the lightning planned and set in place by the engineer Carlos Buigas.<\/p>\n<h3>PORTO CRISTO<\/h3>\n<div>\n<p>Porto Cristo is a very sheltered bay with a beautiful extensive beach of fine sand and shallow water . An old fishing village it is possible to discover numerous hotels, bars, restaurants and a large shopping area. Recommended are the boat trips from which you can see down to the sea bed.<\/p>\n<p>Porto Cristo is also a natural harbour, used for both fishing and sport, which despite modernization has not lost its natural charm.
