When you\u2019re searching for the perfect M\u00e1laga apartment, it\u2019s easy to be drawn straight to the beachfront. However, just a short drive inland opens up access to a wide variety of homes that still provide stunning sea views while boasting a more affordable price tag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malaga property for sale near the village of Ist\u00e1n is a case in point. The centuries-old village sits surrounded by nature at the head of the Rio Verde valley. One of the access points to the beautiful Sierra de las Nieves natural park, it provides a serene escape that never fails to charm and delight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entering Ist\u00e1n feels akin to stepping back in time. Driving to the village takes you past olive groves and fruit trees that date back hundreds of years. As you approach Ist\u00e1n, take the time to join locals (and savvy visitors) in catching the crystal clear mountain spring water as it cascades down the rockface from the mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ll need to leave your car behind as you enter Ist\u00e1n. The streets of the Moorish village were created when all they needed to accommodate were mules and packhorses, meaning exploring on foot is a must. This contributes to the wonderful sense of peace that seems to overlay the entire location \u2013 as does the fact that motorboats and jet skis aren\u2019t allowed on the nearby reservoir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Known as La Concepci\u00f3n, the reservoir is a haven for local wildlife. Hike around the water\u2019s edge or settle down for a picnic and you might be treated to a glimpse of one of Marbella\u2019s extremely rare otters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back in Ist\u00e1n, let the atmosphere of the village wash over you as you stroll between traditional buildings covered with climbing roses and bougainvillaea. Charming sites include the 16th century Church of San Miguel, a 15th century Arab tower surrounded by picturesque gardens and El Chorro fountain \u2013 a beautiful Moorish laundry pillar fed by the region\u2019s pure mountain springs. The little waterfalls and cool pools of the Molinos River are also well worth exploring, with a convenient walking trail taking you from Ist\u00e1n to the vier\u2019s natural source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For more adventurous walkers, the Sierra de las Nieves are on hand to provide challenging hikes and spectacular views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you\u2019ve wandered enough, settle into one of Ist\u00e1n\u2019s shaded central courtyard squares to enjoy local tapas rooted in tradition, such as conejo al ajillo<\/em> (garlic rabbit) or migas<\/em> (a rustic comfort food evolved from resourceful shepherds combining leftovers such as stale bread, olive oil, garlic and meats like chorizo or bacon, perhaps topped with a fried egg).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s easy to fall in love with Ist\u00e1n\u2019s unique vibe. Those who do can find a range of homes nearby. With apartments costing from \u20ac460,000 plus VAT, the development blends a rustic exterior that befits the local landscape with bright, airy, contemporary interiors.
