World Duty Free Group has opened its first Collection store in Spain, at Palma de Mallorca Airport, ahead of the opening of its main tax and duty free store at the airport.
The 380sq m boutique store is one of the first opened by the retailer after winning the AENA tenders at the end of last year to manage retail operations in 26 Spanish airports.
Offering premium brands including Hugo Boss, Longchamp, Desigual and new brands such as Armani jeans, the store started trading at the end of March. World Duty Free’s main tax and duty free store at Palma de Mallorca is scheduled to open in June 2013.
“This is the first time we have introduced the Collection store concept in Spain,” said World Duty Free Group Operations Director Daniel Montero.
“It’s in a great location, just outside the exit of our main store and we have been extremely pleased with the store’s performance in its first month of trading.”
The retailer said it worked in close collaboration with the airport, as well as brand partners, to develop a specialist store that was the “perfect showcase for some of the world’s most prestigious brands”.
In February, operator AENA Aeropuertos revealed its latest commercial plan for Palma de Mallorca Airport, including the expansion of retail space by +74%, to more than 6,000sq m.
