Three Peaks Training for Taylor Wimpey Senior Team

A senior team from Taylor Wimpey UK has bravely entered a team of 10 for the 2011 Three Peaks Challenge.

This infamous race is a harrowing challenge to see which team can ‘run’ up and down the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales.  The challenge must be completed within a 24 hour period to incorporate the driving time between each peak.

The Peaks are:

  • Snowdon, Wales (1085m)
  • Scafell Pike, England (978m)
  • Ben Nevis, Scotland (1344m)

Despite the growing popularity of this challenge it should not be underestimated. It is very easy to get lost, particularly when climbing in the dark or in poor weather, all too common in Great Britain!

The Taylor Wimpey participants have undergone a harsh training programme, part of which was completed in the Balearic Island of Mallorca – home to Taylor Wimpey de España.

Javier Ballester, the Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey de España is a keen walker and hill climber himself and joined the team on their training in the mountains of Serra Tramuntana, Pico Galileu y el Massanella in Majorca – where he was born and raised.

All of the UK team were astounded by the beauty of the Mallorcan scenery and were also very surprised to see a considerable layer of snow towards the summit of the mountains.

Javier Ballester comments: ‘Many visitors from overseas are surprised at the size of our beautiful mountain range in Mallorca; they picture a flatter island with just beaches and holiday towns.  Yes we have fabulous beaches here but in the Northern part we have a massive volcanic backbone to the island which makes a terrific 5 day hike for those keen on walking.  I would recommend most tourists to come in April and May or September and October for walking.  This will avoid the rain and snow and also the fierce heat of the summer.’
