Spanish building boom providing opportunities for British property buyers

Taylor Wimpey España reveals busy summer with keen interest from British buyers

The latest figures from Spanish property research body Tinsa show the construction industry in Spain is booming. The firm’s July 2024 report shows that house prices have risen by 3% in the past year, jumping 0.7% between June to July. Most attention-grabbing, though, is the 16.4% increase in observed crane activity in May 2024, pointing to a busy summer of building for Spain’s housing industry.

Leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España is one firm contributing to that trend. The builder has launched a string of new developments already this year and has plans to reveal further sites before 2025. Meanwhile, British buyer reservations are up 12% (year-to-date August versus the same period in 2023).

“The first half of 2024 was very busy in terms of construction and new development launches and that pace is set to continue for the remainder of this year. This summer season in particular has seen notable demand from British buyers, who are seeking a diverse range of properties in the Spanish sunshine.”

Costa Blanca and Mallorca showcase breadth of Spanish property offering

Taylor Wimpey España’s developments in Mallorca and the Costa Blanca showcase the breadth of Spain’s property offering. Mallorca is known for its busy property market and Tinsa shows prices have risen across the Balearic and Canary Islands by 8.6% in the past year, far outstripping the national average.

Right now, townhouses are proving popular on the island, according to the Taylor Wimpey España team, with buyers seeking homes embedded in the local community with a year-round appealing climate, close to the sea.

In Esporles, at the base of the Tramuntana Mountains, the homes at Es Voltor typify this trend. Priced from €755,000 plus VAT, each of the three-bedroom properties comes with a private garden and large, south-west facing terraces, while the houses share a communal pool. They benefit from easy access to the charming, traditional town of Esporles, which is known for its gastronomic heritage and natural beauty, while the nearest beach is just 8km away.

On the opposite side of the island, the townhouses at Aura in Artà are also attracting interest from British buyers. The three-bedroom homes cost from €835,000 plus VAT and include an impressive main bedroom with dressing area and private terrace. Buyers benefit from both private and communal gardens, along with a lovely shared pool.

The Costa Blanca, meanwhile, is known for its exceptional value, as well as its abundant sunshine and beautiful beaches. There, townhouses cost from as little as €385,000 plus VAT at Breeze in Balcón de Finestrat (Alicante). Just 5km from the beach and 2km from the nearest golf course, the homes are ideal for British buyers seeking to enjoy an outdoorsy lifestyle in Spain. More than 10km of beaches surround Finestrat, meaning buyers are spoiled for choice when it comes to spending time by the sea.

At Azur at Alicante Golf, the beach is even closer – just 2km away – while the on-site golf is perfect for players of all abilities. The four-bedroom townhouses are priced from €615,000 plus VAT, with just ten townhouses available in the boutique residential development. Private rooftop solariums provide lovely views, while the pretty playpark serves Azur’s youngest residents.
