MALAGA City has had its best summer ever for tourism, according to the latest figures from the National Statistics Institute (INE).
June, July and August saw 312,218 tourists stay at city hotels, 7.7 per cent more than the same period last year, with stays getting longer (reaching an average of 2.21 days per stay this summer) and hotel occupancy rates of 83.2 per cent.
The number of visitors to the city has been constantly growing over the last five years as it becomes a more popular destination, both for Spanish tourists and those from abroad, and is now beaten only by Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona as the most popular city for tourists from abroad to visit.
Although large increases in the numbers of visitors from Mexico, Brazil, South Korea, China, Argentina, Turkey, Austria and Sweden were registered this summer, the UK remains the country the most visitors come from, followed by Italy and France.
