On approach, Purobeach looks like something out of a Bond movie. Once inside, you feel like you are in Bond a movie.
It opened six years ago on a small peninsula at Cala Estancia and has been going global, opening venues in Marbella, the Algarve, Montenegro and soon in the Black Sea. The décor here has Bali influences, with the centrepiece being a dazzling pool surrounded by white cotton sunloungers and parasols, which invariably reflect on the water.
As the sun sets over Palma Bay, the club’s centre of gravity moves westwards. There is capacity for 120 sunbeds and the same number of seated guests. Top dishes are the Puro burger and the grilled lobster, followed by a dessert called Gino, which is fruit with gratinated white chocolate and ice cream. The passion fruit mojito is sweet, tasty and refreshing. DJ-selected music adds to the relaxed atmosphere.
Though not technically on a beach, there’s a small one beside it and Purobeach can actually be an alternative to the beach. It is also a photographer’s dream, boasting a stunning sunset that goes through a kaleidoscope of colours as it slowly sinks over Palma Bay.
Themed events such as a sushi sunset on the 16th of this month are regularly planned, while massages are available from €45.
Lowdown: No cover charge. Reservation recommended, especially at weekends. Mains for about €20. Sunlounger with towel service €35. Open from 11am to 1am, high season, and 11am to 7pm low season, April to October.
