During the 12th and 14th of November, the town of Pollensahosts a wonderful fair that showcases local goods and produce. The annual event is held in and around the medieval town’s streets and traditional square, which already holds plenty of interesting shops and weekly markets.
Last year, the event held some wonderful surprises for visitors as the Town Square was decorated as a large vegetable patch with plenty of farm machinery and locally grown produce on show and for sale. Locals and store holders often dress up in traditional costumes during the market weekend which certainly adds to the atmosphere.
The interior of the Church of Sant Domingo is transformed into an interior design showroom, with papier machier creations, soft furnishings, clothing and ceramics of the best quality available to purchase or to simply admire. The exhibition continues into the cloister, where candles, hats, woven baskets, figurines, lamps and puppets join the display.
Around the streets of Pollenca, stalls of local produce, sweets, plants, jewellery, wine, soaps and scarves (to name but a few) are set up for you to wander around and enjoy. Featuring alongside the artesan side of the fair is the agricultural celebrations. The main square is transformed into a large vegetable patch, with traditional farmyard machinery and tools carefully displayed at random intervals through the streets. Many of the stall-keepers dress in traditional Majorcan clothing to help create a ‘step back in time’ feeling to the festival.
With pony rides and fairground attractions also available for the kids to play on, there is something for everyone at this Mallorcan fair.
