On the Beach say that Brits are increasingly heading abroad for their holidays, with trips to Spain proving most popular.
On the Beach, the UK’s leading online travel agency, say that British people are increasingly choosing to spend their holidays abroad. The company has found that more and more Brits are opting to spend their time off in exotic destinations, instead of places closer to home.
The company has found that holidays to Spain, Greece and Turkey are particularly popular with their customers, many of whom cite an escape to warm weather as their motivation to travel.
Data released by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, shows a similar trend, as the body found that across the EU27 almost one in four holiday trips in 2010 were to destinations abroad. In Britain, this figure was even higher as 39 per cent of trips were to destinations outside the United Kingdom.
Alistair Daly, Marketing Director of On the Beach, comments: “It is not surprising to see so many Brits travel abroad during their holidays. Flights to popular resorts are incredibly affordable and convenient, so there are no barriers to prevent our customers from jumping on last minute holidays to great destinations.
“We expect that when Eurostat announce their figures for 2011, that they will find even more Brits opting to spend their precious holidays abroad. People have discovered how easy it is to escape to Mediterranean destinations and more and more Brits are travelling abroad to ensure they make every break from work as good as possible.”
