MALLORCA has proved it has one of the best beaches in the world. Puerto Alcudia made it into TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice ‘Top 25 Beach Destinations in the World’, in 25th spot.
The top three beach destinations are Providenciales, a little Caribbean island, Palm/Eagle Beach in Aruba and Tulum in Mexico.
Meanwhile, in the ‘Top 10 Beach Destinations in Europe’, Puerto Alcudia was the first of five Spanish beaches that made the list.
It came third behind two Turkish beaches, Oludeniz and Icmeler.
“Velvety white sand stretches along five miles of gentle waters,” it states on the website where it recommends going “for a quiet stroll around the quaint beach-side fishing village or swim or snorkel in the electric-blue sea.
Parts of the beach are a bit breezier, attracting windsurfers and paragliders galore. Interesting shops and ancient Roman ruins add to Alcudia’s allure.” Benidorm in Alicante came fifth and three Canary Islands beaches claimed the three final slots.
Playa del Ingles in Gran Canaria came eight, followed by Corralejo in Fuerteventura and Puerto del Carmen in Lanzarote in ninth and 10th position.
The UK also featured on the list with Bournemouth beach in fourth spot with other beaches on the list including Albufiera (Portugal) and Antalya (Turkey).
When focusing purely on the ‘Top 10 Beach Destinations in Spain’, three other Mallorca beaches made the grade. Palma Nova came seventh, Magalluf eighth and Cala d’Or (Santanyi) 10th.
Other Spanish beaches that made the list include Salou on the Costa Dorada and Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria. TripAdvisor’s annual awards are determined according to ratings given by millions of global travellers in their reviews on the website.
