Spanish hotels recorded 14.6 million overnight stays in November, representing an increase of 1.7% over the same month of 2010, while prices fell by 0.3%, a tenth lower than in November 2010, according to figures released on Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The increase in hotel occupancy experienced in November was mainly as a result of an increase of 6.2% of foreign tourists’ overnight stays in these establishments, while Spanish tourists’ overnight stays in hotels increased by 3.8% over November 2010.
In the first eleven months of the year, overnight stays in hotels rose by 6.6% over the same period last year.
The average stay in November increased by 2.5% and stood at 3 nights per visitor, while prices, as measured by the Hotel Price Index (HPI) fell 0.3%.
By country, travellers from Germany and the United Kingdom accounted for over four million overnight stays in November, with increases of 8.2% for Germany and 2.2% for the UK, while overnight stays by travellers from France, Sweden and Italy registered increases of 1.3%, 15.1% and 0.8% respectively.
The main destination for non-residents was the Canary Islands, with an increase of 11.8%, while the Spanish chose Andalusia, Valencia and Madrid as their destinations of preference.
The Canary Islands was also the region with the highest rate of occupancy per places during the month of November with 72.2%, followed by Madrid (48.4%) and the Balearic Islands (47.1%).
The revenue per occupied room reached an average value of 69 euros in November (0.3 euros more than last year), while hotel revenue per available room stood at 33.9 euros (0.3 euros more).
With regard to occupancy rates for November, 42.5% of the available rooms were taken, up 1.3% from a year earlier, while the percentage of occupancy per places on the weekend stood at 47.8%, which is the same as last year.
