SENIOR citizens over 65 years old in Mallorca have listed health, independence and social life as the most important factors in their life, says a report.
The study was carried out by researchers from the Psychology and Pedagogy departments at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), aiming to find out how high senior citizens’ quality of life is in Mallorca.
Through a survey that interviewed 400 seniors from across Mallorca, researchers were able to find out that health, self-sufficiency and having an active social life were seniors’ priorities and were listed as more important than other aspects of life, such as being active, having a good home, life satisfaction, learning, income or social services.
Even though the great majority (87.75 per cent) of interviewees believed they had an average or high quality of life, the study’s authors stressed that a significant 12.25 per cent of senior citizens in Mallorca think their quality of life is poor.
