GASTRONOMY and wine are the main reason for 74 per cent of British tourists when it comes to choosing Spain as their holiday destination.
These are the results of a study created by Mintel holidays to Spain-UK, where it states that 54 percent are interested in buying authentic products without caring where they are produced, belying the myth that the British prefer their food to those of other countries.
This is why massive supermarket chains like Tesco or Marks and Spencers have created their own Spanish tapas, with sales incrementing in the last year, proving the Spanish products to be a great hit.
Wine is the star product demanded by the British with a staggering volume of over €341 million and fruit juices not far behind with €93 million.
“Britain is one of the main markets where the trilogy of Gastronomy, Tourism and Food, present the best opportunities,” the Director of (FIAB), Jaime Palafox, assures us.
Because of this, 24 Spanish companies will attend the Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2014, celebrated from September 7 to 9 in London, to showcase their products to everyone.
Britain is the fifth worldwide destination for the exportation of Spanish food and drinks, with a number of €1.511 million in 2013, a 12 per cent rise from 2012.
The average export of these products in the last five years has been 7.5 percent, a ‘very postive trend’ according to Palafox.
