As the world’s population swells, so too do its number of tourists – in particular to Spain. At current rates of growth, total visitors to Spain – reported to have already reached over 36 million from January to June this year – will be close to twice its population in the coming years.
Take the Spanish island of Mallorca. Whether it’s the Love Island effect or simply the countless charms of this Mediterranean jewel but this summer, its popularity has reached dizzier heights with British arrivals up 17.6% (Jan – May 2017 vs the same period in 2016) reports the Tourism Board.
With an economy so reliant on tourism, this is indeed positive news however with visitor numbers swelling, some are concerned over its sustainability.
“It is fantastic to see Mallorca’s popularity continues to flourish, we have certainly received a great number of enquiries from international visitors looking to experience all that this wonderful island has to offer. I do believe however that it is important to ensure that Mallorca remains a sustainable island which is why we are focused on delivering quality homes in quality locations for generations to enjoy.”
Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director, Taylor Wimpey Espana
Indeed, as the local authorities set out ambitious plans to move away Mallorca from mass market tourism and embrace quality, Taylor Wimpey Espana, established almost 60 years ago on the island, is proudly delivering its high quality homes.
“Whilst it’s easy to say, it’s not so easy to deliver high quality homes which is why we are so proud of our Mallorcan developments. Operational since 1958, Taylor Wimpey Espana has been at the forefront of the island’s property market for almost six decades, securing the very best sites and building the finest homes for our clients. We are Mallorca and we are committed to ensuring a sustainable future for the island we call home.”
