Manchester Airport is seeing huge demand for flights to Spain as the destination is Mancunians favourite, according to a study. Foreign exchange specialist Travelex carried out a survey, which found over a quarter (27%) chose the Mediterranean country as their favourite.
Travelex says Mancunians picked the southern region of Costa del Sol as their preferred sunshine spot.
The results also found people from Manchester cannot live without tea bags and Marmite while sunning it up on holiday.
And almost half of Mancunians surveyed said they like to visit the pub for a drink, while 68% chose sightseeing as their favourite holiday activity.
The study also found 66% chose to top up their tans while away, for on average three hours a day.
Research also found 17% of Mancunians said the US was their ‘ultimate holiday destination’.
Jayne Trueman, from Travelex comments: “On the one hand, we can see that holidaymakers from Manchester are creatures of habit, but we can also see that their destination choices are evolving.”
Manchester Airport says it has seen a huge demand for flights to Spain, as well as growing popularity for routes to America.
Spanish destinations appear six times in the top twenty most popular flights with Palma in Majorca topping the list overall.
Beth Brewster, retail director for Manchester Airports Group (MAG), says: “Spain has been consistently popular because of the short flight time and year-round sunshine, but we’ve also recently seen passengers opting for further afield destinations such as Turkey and America.“
