Data pinpoints brand-new, three-bedroom Costa del Sol penthouses as British buyers’ ideal second homes in 2026

3-bed apartments sold faster than any other property type during Q3 2025

A slew of data has helped to pinpoint British buyers’ dream Spanish second homes for 2026: newly built three-bedroom properties in the sun-kissed Costa del Sol.

Figures from Spain’s national registrar body, the Colegio Registradores, show the emphasis that buyers are already placing on buying new. In Andalusia, Q3 2025 figures show that new-build property sales shot up by 35.8% over the preceding year, while registered sales of previously used homes increased by just 11.4%.

Real estate site idealista throws further light on the property types that buyers are seeking; analysis from Q3 2025 shows that three-bedroom apartments sold faster than any other property type in Spain, with 37% of them on the market for less than a month.

In terms of who’s buying, Britons top the list of international buyers, according to Colegio Registradores’ data, accounting for 13.58% of all foreigners buying property in Spain. And when it comes to where they’re buying, leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España reports that 75% of its reservations by Britons are in the Costa del Sol.

“Three-bedroom penthouses in the Costa del Sol clearly tick all the right boxes for British buyers, whether as second homes or primary residences. We anticipate strong demand for these homes during 2026, particularly in top locations close to popular beaches and golf courses, as well as to local amenities.”

Penthouses offer a range of benefits, usually offering the best views in a development, as well as the sense of space and light that comes from having nothing overhead but open sky. In the Costa del Sol, with its abundance of sunshine, this is particularly valuable.

Penthouse properties in the Costa del Sol can vary significantly in terms of price, meaning the area appeals to buyers with a wide range of budgets. At Solemar in Casares Beach (Malaga), for example, a three-bedroom, three-bathroom penthouse from Taylor Wimpey España costs from €535,000 plus VAT. Within both a beach and golf course within walking distance, the spacious home enjoys an excellent location with picturesque views. Lush communal gardens and a communal swimming pool add to the appeal. Solemar is due for completion in February 2026, meaning buyers can look forward to enjoying some much-needed spring sunshine on the large, L-shaped terrace of their new home.

A little way along the coast, in San Pedro de Alcantara, Marbella, the penthouse at Mare costs from €1.49M plus VAT. The key-ready, four-bedroom home comes fully furnished, with high specification fixtures and fittings throughout. In addition to a communal swimming pool and gardens, the property features a stunning terrace that curves around two sides of the building, offering idyllic sea views. The beach is just a short walk away, with all amenities close to hand.
