From 2-5 May, London’s Southbank Centre will be taken over by Campo Viejo wine, bringing Spanish food, art, culture and of course, vino, to the capital. While Spanish sunshine can’t be guaranteed, the four-day fiesta will undoubtedly bring lots of fun and a laid-back Spanish vibe to the bank holiday weekend.
Streets of Spain will see stalls from Barcelona’s famous La Boqueria market lined up along the river, where visitors can take home essential produce including spices, dried fruits and Spanish chorizo, ham and cheese, among many other delights. Alternatively, fill hungry bellies there and then with an array of tasty tapas, paella, moreish churros and delicious ice cream.
One highlight of the fiesta will be the Colour Lab, headed up by Oxford Psychologist, Professor Charles Spence. It’s a free wine tasting experience like no other and participants will be taken on a sensory journey, discovering the effects of sound, colour and light on the taste of wine.
Another must is to join a blending class where visitors can pound grapes for an hour, adding in spices and juices as they go. At the end all that hard work will be worth it as guests will end up with their very own personalised bottle of wine!
While all of this is going on, renowned Spanish artists, Remed and Okuda, will be showcasing their talents and treating visitors to a show of live art. The artists will be ensconced in a Perspex tube, while onlookers watch them create a piece of art which encompasses the vibrancy of Spain.
