On Saturday 16 July, BBC Radio 1Xtra will be getting into the summer party spirit when it broadcasts for the very first time from one of the most popular Mediterranean islands, Majorca.
Kicking off with a live simulcast on Radio 1Xtra and BBC Radio 1 from 7-11pm (8pm-12midnight local time), BBC Radio 1Xtra Live heads to Mallorca Rocks Hotel for a huge outdoor party in front of thousands of revellers, hosted by Trevor Nelson, Tim Westwood, MistaJam and DJ Target. The DJs will be serving up classic anthems and the hottest tunes at this free ticketed event, alongside PAs from special guests Chipmunk, Mann and Lethal Bizzle making this an unmissable night.
The party continues on-air from midnight when the Radio 1Xtra crew move across to the biggest club on the island for BBC Radio 1Xtra Live brings the party to Mallorca. Over a five-hour Radio 1Xtra/ Radio 1 simulcast, listeners will hear all the action from the 8,500 capacity BCM crowd soaking up the atmosphere from the main room with PAs from the legendary Ms Dynamite and rapper of the moment Wretch 32; and in the second room, hosted by MistaJam, bass and dubstep music take centre stage with a stellar line up of some of the biggest names on the scene – Chase & Status (DJ Set), True Tiger, Jakwob and MC host P Money.
BBC Radio 1Xtra Live in Majorca follows on from the longstanding success of BBC Radio 1Xtra in Ayia Napa which, in 2010, celebrated 10 years of bringing listeners the biggest guests and parties on the island.
Ben Cooper, Deputy Controller, Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra, says: “This is a great opportunity for 1Xtra to showcase some fantastic UK artists and reflect the excitement and fun of our young listeners on holiday.”
Mistajam says: “Having played in Majorca a good few times, it’s good to be making that trip back this year with 1Xtra to spread the word of the station to the revellers. Sun, sea, sand and 1Xtra – what more could you need?”
Tim Westwood says: “It’s gonna be the hottest party of the summer – you’re gonna have the best holiday of a lifetime!”
