British Airways has announced it is to start flying from London City Airport to Granada in Spain this summer.
The year-round service will begin on July 25, with four flights a week and an extra one during summer months. The airline will be using a 98-seat Embraer 190 jet.
Luke Hayhoe, British Airways general manager commercial at London City said: “This is an excellent opportunity for us to add to our schedule of leisure destinations from London City. We chose Granada because that region has a wealth of cultural and historic interest yet people currently can’t fly there direct from the UK.
“The Granada flights will also compliment our Malaga service which is so popular that we are also increasing frequency there from four to six flights a week from July 25.”
Flights will take off from London City at 9.10am and arrive at Granada at 12.50pm local time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Return flights leave Granada at 1.35pm and touch down in London City at 3.15pm.
During the summer, an additional flight on Thursday will depart London City at 3.20pm and arrive at 7pm, with the return leg taking off at 7.40pm and arriving at 9.20pm.
Granada is situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It’s an hour from the Mediterranean coast and close to the Sierra Nevada Ski Station where the 1996 World Alpine Ski Championships were held.
The region is also home to the Alhambra Palace, the most visited monument in Spain.
BA also flies from London City to Spanish destinations of Madrid, Mahon, Barcelona, Majorca, Malaga, Ibiza.
