Some 5.6 million visitors are expected on the Costa del Sol this summer, according to the President of the Tourism Board, Elias Bendodo.
Eight per cent more tourists are expected between June and September this year compared to 2013, while overnight stays are expected to increase by 9%.
Bendodo said that more tourists are expected from abroad, especially the UK, Germany, France and Scandinavia, but also from within Spain.
Airlines have increased their available places on flights connecting with Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport by 5% to 11.5 million.
The Tourism Board, Bendodo said, will also put more effort than ever into promoting the Costa del Sol as an all-year tourist destination to attract more people out of season.
There will also be campaigns to promote the many attractions of the area, apart from its weather and beaches, such as leisure, culture and gastronomy.
He said that inland tourism is already on the rise and that this must continue.
