“Spain is looking to court tourists by promoting its shopping offer this year,” comments Marketing Director of leading Spanish homebuilder Taylor Wimpey España. “The country has some fantastic shopping destinations, but many visitors simply overlook the stores in favour of the beaches. Northumberland To The Costa Blanca

The couple’s big move to Spain was prompted by Lesley. One day she was surfing the internet and came across a website for Taylor Wimpey España. They were offering a 3 day inspection visit to the Costa Blanca and the Walkers decided to go.

The original property that had lured them to this area of Spain was up in the hills on a golf course. Once there they decided that the beach was a little too far away for them and it wasn’t quite what they were after. The Taylor Wimpey España representative suggested they consider a new development that was just being built closer to the beach instead. Once they saw this particular development Lagunas del Sol they fell in love with both the area and the development.

Viva España: What can expats really expect from their new life under the Spanish sun?

Of course, the only way to really tell what a country is like is to live there for an extended period of time. Taylor Wimpey España find that many who purchase their holiday homes do so with a view to using them in the future as retirement properties. This enables them to spend holidays there with family and friends, but also to stay for longer periods before committing to a full move. It’s an ideal solution for those considering becoming expats but uncertain as to what they can really expect.

The beautiful townhouses at Brisas de Alenda Golf in Alicante are the perfect properties for those considering a new life in Spain, as well as for second homes. The last remaining townhouses, which are available for €145,000, enjoy a superb location in this exclusive and tranquil area and their spacious terraces, communal pool and pretty communal gardens have been designed with outdoor living in mind. As well as the idyllic golf course, the area boasts a clubhouse, bilingual Spanish/English school and nearby supermarket, all just 15 minutes from Alicante airport.

Record year for Spanish tourism

“Rising visitor numbers are great news for Spain’s construction sector,” Taylor Wimpey Spain comments. “Certainly here at Taylor Wimpey España we have noticed strong demand for luxury holiday properties from buyers hailing from a wide range of countries. Spain has such an enchanting effect on so many people that they want to come back again and again, so buying a second home here is the perfect solution.”

The Costa Blanca remains one of the most popular areas with tourists, with the Mayor of Calpe, César Sánchez, highlighting the area’s cuisine and beaches as two of the leading reasons for its appeal.

Taylor Wimpey has seen an “influx of buyers” for their development in the area, with only two three-bedroom houses left.

“Our other Calpe site, Montesol, has proven equally popular, with just three townhouses left, priced from €249,000,” he adds. “The area’s blend of excellent food, good wine, stunning scenery and family friendly beach is a truly winning combination.”

How to buy a holiday home

Property: ‘Invest in Spain in 2015’ as tourism soars

Anyone looking for an investment abroad should look towards Spain for 2015 as its tourist industry continues to grow, says one developer.

Ask for the kids’ permission first

What is perhaps less well known is the influence that children have on the purchase of second homes. Owning a home overseas is a wonderful way to enjoy family holidays and avoids the usual hassles associated with family getaways. The TripAdvisor survey found that lugging extra gear and not enough quiet time for parents were the top annoyances, both of which can be avoided through second home ownership.

Taylor Wimpey Spain comments: “There’s no doubt that children play a huge role in their parents’ decision to purchase a second home. Our buyers are looking for large swimming pools, on-site parking and easy beach access, all of which are important for their children to enjoy time at the property.”

Building a better future in Spain

The cranes are on the move once again in Spain, as the construction sector finally picks up its tools following a seven year pause. October 2014 saw the sector register a 13.9% increase in activity compared with a year earlier, according to Eurostat, while financial advisors Arcano have pegged real estate and construction as two of the driving forces behind the Spanish economy in 2015.

Taylor Wimpey Epaña comments: “The past few years certainly haven’t been easy for Spain’s construction and real estate sectors. Many developments were simply left mid-construction when the hard times hit and it has taken until now for a lot of companies to have both the confidence and the financing to begin building once more.”

Foreign demand fuels Spanish property price rises

Spain’s market has come a long way in 2014. “Spain may offer one of the strongest recoveries within the Eurozone,” PwC highlighted in an investment report in January. Since then, the country has done just that, with its improving economy out of recession, property prices beginning to climb and demand from buyers soaring.

Taylor Wimpey España comments “Coastal areas and those offering top class sporting experiences such as the golf courses of the Costa del Sol have seen a definite upturn in terms of enquiries and sales during 2014. High quality developments with communal pools have attracted particular interest, with both property investors and second home owners keen to take advantage of Spanish bargains. There has been a fresh optimism in the market this year.”

How to dress your property for success

Dressing a property to wow potential buyers is a skilled art. Mirrors need to be strategically placed in order to maximise light while avoiding glare. Pictures need to complement the colour scheme while remaining neutral in order to suit a wide range of tastes. The sofa needs to have just the right number of cushions to show how delightfully comfortable it will be the moment the viewer sits down.

As Spain’s leading homebuilder, Taylor Wimpey España is well aware of the importance of dressing a property for success. “For many of those interested in buying a second home in Spain, first impressions are everything. They need to walk through the door of the property and get ‘the feeling’ straight away; to know that the property is perfect for them.”

Each development also has at least one communal swimming pool for those wishing to take the plunge over the winter months.
